My CV (PDF): https://www.dropbox.com/s/7thjm25cjezt5hk/PhilOwensCV.pdf
I have recently completed a Professional Diploma in Computer Game Development, where I specialised in Programming (major) and Design (minor). I am now eagerly searching for my first programming role, and while my biggest passion lies in computer games and I would give up an arm (or some other limb that I don't really need for programming) to join a games company, I would happily take any role that would allow me to sit and code all day.
My love for programming has grown from a concept of the importance of programming to a game - as eloquently put by a recent evil Disney character "code is the sweet life blood of the game", and in early 2010 when I had this realisation myself, I just had to try my hand at it.
I moved myself to Manchester from a small village near Durham in the North East of England, got a full-time job working for Capita, to pay my way and embarked on what would become four years of part time education which began with a Foundation Course in Computer Game Programming (C++).
As with many would-be programmers, those fateful words "Hello World" would be the greeting of a world of infinite power and possibility and I quickly learnt that with the right application of logic you could achieve nearly anything with programming - I was hooked.
After passing my C++ course I then sought to further my knowledge of game production and advance my programming skills, which lead me onto my aforementioned Diploma Course, a level 5 qualification (equivalent to the first 2 years of a Degree), where I not only learnt infinitely more about coding, but about the development cycle of computer games. I have achieved Distinctions for both my first and second year assignments and am currently eagerly awaiting my results for the final year.
It's been an exhilarating and exciting 4 years of learning, which I now hope to take to the next level and apply my learning in a creative and productive way.
