Dimension Hop Main Menu |
For our final two terms of the second year on the Diploma course we were charged with separating into small teams and creating a game of our choice, up to a Alpha/Beta stage.
Dimension Hop was the game we decided to make, and it went through many design changes in the early stages of development.
Originally a game called Jungle Run, about an over energetic lizard bouncing through a jungle themed platform game, it eventually evolved into Dimension Hop, a game about a stuffed Toy Bunny who is lost by his owner and winds up in a place named 'The Void', where all lost things go, like car keys and left socks. Our bunny then embarks on a journey to find his way back to his distraught owner.
On his travels he finds special magical 'shards' that give him the ability to swap dimensions. Hop (the bunny) gains a different ability in each dimension, and must use all of these abilities to progress through the levels of the game.
Dimension Hop - The Void |
In the Void, Hop can de-materialise at specific point, enabling him to teleport through vertical walls.
In the Mechanical Dimension items become heavier, enabling Hop to leave them on pressure points to activate moving platforms, as a Robo-Bunny he also has the ability to grip and stretch his arms, enabling him to climb some surfaces, and perform a 'monkey swing' off some overhead areas.
Dimension Hop - Candy Dimension |
In the Candy Dimension, hop becomes a Gingerbread bunny and can crumble down into crumb form to fit through cracks in the floor, while re-building himself on the other side.
And finally, in the Doodle Dimension, Hop becomes an origami bunny, where he floats and glides weightlessly making him immune to fall damage, he can also use air currents created by fans to propel him upwards to otherwise unreachable locations.
